Black mild steel has a dark, matte appearance due to the surface finish achieved after the steel has been hot rolled. It lacks any additional treatment or coating, maintaining a raw, unprocessed look.

Both types share the same material composition (mostly iron and carbon) but differ in their appearance and surface finish due to varying manufacturing processes.
